About Laura
I am a 13-year veteran Florida high school English teacher with bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature from Florida State University and the University of North Florida, respectively. I have taught basic and remedial English courses along with Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition, and Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, helping my students earn above state and national passing rates. My students' AP Language scores were the highest our high school ever achieved in the 20+ years of offering the course. Additonally, I have taught dual enrollment (college credit courses) in composition I and II, world literature, introduction to literature, American literature, and film. My teaching certificate is still active in the state of Florida. However, I am no longer in the classroom since resigning due to the risks of COVID.
I have a strong passion for fiction, nonfiction, grammar, and rhetoric. I am also familiar with Florida testing requirements, and can provided help with SAT and ACT preparation. I love to help students succeed in their course studies and in the real world. The "ah-ha!" moments students have is priceless to me.

As a teacher Mrs. Porter provided difficult course material that prepared me for my AP language test. She assured her AP classes were on level with the test and provided many opportunities to demonstrate mastery of complex topics. Work was given consistently; she provided opportunities for students to lead class discussions and ask questions.
Mrs. Porter has always been dedicated to teaching complete concepts and ensuring that her students understand material fully. Anytime that I went to her with confusion she would help me to the correct answer by asking thought-provoking questions which then allowed me to retain the information. Her tutoring is thorough and she doesn't cut corners; I would recommend her to anyone seeking help with English work!
Laura Porter is an amazing English tutor. While I was taught many concepts and skills throughout school, I quickly realized through her that I did not truly understand the concepts that had been presented to me. Through her simple explanations and practice work I was able to hone my skills and truly understand the concepts to the point that I was able to teach them. Now I am able to write essays twice as fast with higher quality structure and grammar than before.
