About Julianna

Hi! I'm Julianna and I'm a junior at the University of Connecticut studying English and English Education. I am training to become a high school English teacher. I've spent several years tutoring and assisting in classrooms. I got a 5 on AP English Comp and a 4 on AP Lit. I currently hold a 3.848 GPA. I am also a stand up comic and president/director of Horse Lincoln Improv.

I think that the subject of English fosters imagination, creativity, and most importantly empathy. Working with students and seeing them achieve is the best feeling in the world.

I am a junior in the University of Connecticut's 5 year education program. This means that I will graduate with a B.A. in English, a B.S. in English Secondary Education, and a M.A. in Educational Psychology. I have spent 2 years student teaching at Windham High School and I tutored children for four years in high school. I recently got a job at UConn's Writing Center where I will help my peers with essay writing. I have also taken many classes in different forms of literature as well as Educational Psychology classes in order to understand educational pedagogy and how to adapt lesson plans for students. I also worked as a T.A. in a Contemporary Issues of Education class. Last semester I was also an intern at The Connecticut Writing Project where I edited K-12 writing. I also co-taught a college essay writing class last summer.

About the lesson

When I work with a student I first try to understand their educational history. I want to know their strengths and weaknesses so I can formulate a lesson plan that will fit best to them. Every student is different, therefore we cannot use a cookie-cutter method when it comes to their learning. Once I have an understanding of exactly what they need, I construct a plan for them that suits them and plays to their strengths while aiding their weaknesses.
