Art With Marissa provides engaging, creativity-driven art classes in private or small group settings, using high-quality art supplies. I’ve been making art all my life. I started Art With Marissa a few years ago when my oldest son began school in a school that had no art teachers. Having spent time as a high school art teacher who understands the value of an art education, I had to act. So I started by volunteering in his classroom, and that morphed into running art camps during the summer, which grew into this business, which has proved incredibly rewarding, for me and my students. By using a small-group format, no child gets lost in the crowd, and every artistic voice is heard. I find students are able to grow and develop at extraordinary rates this way. The process of creating, of thinking, planning, and doing, is almost magical to be a part of.
I started in an elementary school for one year, then high school for 6 years.
I have a Bachelor’s in Art Education,K-12, 7 years classroom experience, and 3 years running my home studio. I am also the mother to 3 boys.

WIth a new student, I like to get a feel for their own interests. Often, the first time will be a process-oriented approach, with a wide variety of materials to choose from, so I can get an idea of where their strengths lie. I like to talk to and with them a lot in that first meeting, to “read” them so they feel comfortable and get to know me.
I have taught them all. Pre-k, elementary, middle school, high school, and adults.
Find a teacher who is a good match for you, and make sure your creative voice is being heard.
Last year, one of my private student’s art got picked up by Childish, a company that curates kid art all around the world, and sells prints of their art. The profits from those prints are put back into the community to fund arts initiatives for kids, extra art supplies, etc. The work she did with me is being sold around the world!

I like that Marissa allows the students to go about the work in their own way, after being given initial guidance and history on the project theme. Marissa will offer assistance during the work as well. I have observed technique and theory being taught as well. I appreciate that my child is able to learn without being told to "stay inside the lines" with her work. I highly recommend Marissa.
Marissa is an amazing soul and has a magical way with the kiddos! My daughter had a blast at her first art workshop with her. We are excited to continue taking her classes as she not only does art; she teaches art history, appreciation, and how art affects all aspects of our lives.
We LOVE Art with Marissa! My mom is a former art teacher and I have kind of a high standard in what I wanted for my daughter. We were looking for someone to teach my daughter all about the different kinds of art media, know that there are no mistakes in art, that it should be fun, and above all - encourage creativity. My daughter can't wait to get to class with Marissa and the projects she's brought home are things she's so proud of and we're excited to display. My daughter is getting exposure to famous artists, learning new techniques, and learning art terminogy.
