About Amanda
Amanda Cushman is a culinary educator, cookbook author, writer and recipe developer who has cooked professionally for over thirty years. She teaches privately for groups of two to twenty students in their home as well as having taught in venues such as Sur La Table, The Institute of Culinary Education, The Natural Gourmet Cooking School and Williams Sonoma. She has taught corporate team building classes for companies such as; Fitness Magazine, Exxon Mobile, Hugo Boss, Yahoo, Nike, Google, Guess Jeans, Direct TV, Toyota and Korn Ferry International.
She began her food career in Manhattan starting out in catering and worked with Martha Stewart and Glorious Foods before becoming a recipe developer for Food and Wine, Cooking Light, Vegetarian Times, Fine Cooking and Ladies Home Journal. She was a private chef to a number of clients including James Robinson; CEO of American Express and Amy Levin the Editor in Chief of Glamour. Her private classes were a big hit in LA with clients such as Neil Patrick Harris, Molly Sims, Anne Archer and Randy Newman.
She has made her name in cities such as Boston, NY, Miami and Los Angeles and recently relocated to Durham, NC where she continues to teach in private homes as well as develop recipes for food start ups. Her highly popular public classes are featured at Southern Season, Duke Fitness and ICE in NYC.
I love to assist people to learn and grow with food. Watching the transformation of my students from beginner to advanced in a short period is my passion. I teach cuisines from all over the world and enjoy teaching these cuisines.
I started in Miami in the early nineties. I was hired by a local cooking school to give demonstration classes after they read an article about me in the Miami Herald covering my healthy cooking techniques.
I then moved to NYC where I taught for the largest cooking school in the city; ICE.
I have trained in top restaurants, cooking schools and with caterers in NYC and LA. I worked with Martha Stewart and Glorious Foods in NYC for over twenty years. In my position there as head chef, I learned to multi task and be highly organized.
I attended the Institute of Culinary Education, The Natural Gourmet Cooking School and the New York Restaurant School where I learned skills needed to be in the kitchen on a professional level.

I talk with them via email or over the phone if necessary, to learn of any dietary restrictions or requests for speciific skills.
When we meet I go over what we are making, the skills that we are covering in the class and the process we will take. The recipes are presented and I make sure there is an understanding of recipes.
Every type of student from beginner to advanced. All ages from 11 to 80. I enjoy the challenge of a beginner who needs skills and is a blank slate as well as seasoned cook who is looking for more involved training.
Look for someone with years of experience teaching.
I attended the IACP conference in Kentucky with world renowned chefs, cooking professionals and writers.

Details
I charge per group. I have a one on one and couples price and a group price. If I have to shop for ingredients I have a fee for this service as well. Otherwise the student shops from a list I send them. I believe shopping is an important part of the cooking process.
