About Sean
I am a career scientist that has worked in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry for 15 years. I have medicines that I have contributed to developing that are FDA approved, and my other scientific passion has been advancing algae based biofuel. I have worked in the desert of New Mexico growing algae for several years and applying my passion for biology and chemistry.
I have a bachelor degree in biology and a masters degree in pharmacology from Oxford University in England. I went to Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas and took mostly AP courses and enjoyed my science teachers immensely. I graduated high school summa cum laude and college magna cum laude and am a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
My other passion for tutoring is SAT prep. I raised my own score from the mid 1200s to 1420 by studying for the test back when the max score was 1600. This was enough to earn over $330,000 in scholarships or almost 25% of my graduating high school class's scholarship money. I ended up taking a full tuition scholarship to a small private university in Florida called Stetson University. I have a passion for teaching others how to crack the SAT and make their college dreams come closer to reach. I not only can tutor regarding science and the SAT, but can provide advice on getting into college and getting as much scholarship money as possible.
I care deeply about the students that I tutor and work to customize lessons to each student's strengths and weaknesses. I like to include some history lessons in my teaching as well as go over some basic concepts to make learning scientific concepts more relatable. I find that once a student learns about the contribution of an individual scientist to the field, it becomes more possible in their mind that they can contribute something to science and learning becomes more exciting.
