About Jake
Hello! I'm a current grad student studying chiropractic who is passionate about anatomy and physiology. I obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Huskers!) in May of 2016. After having completed some courses while in chiropractic school I was asked to begin tutoring them and have loved every bit of it! I love helping others learn more about themselves through these classes, and creating new/easier ways to remember different themes in the body. I've been tutoring 500 and up level courses including: Systemic Anatomy, Spinal Anatomy, Cardiovascular Pulmonary Physiology, Thoracic Abdominopelvic Anatomy, and Extremities Anatomy; all classes I've been tutoring for almost 2 years now. My prior professors suggested I start tutoring their classes after completing them. Most of the classes I tutor are one's that students typically struggle in, so there was a dire need for a tutor. After the first tutoring session I was hooked. I love seeing the figurative light bulbs turn on in the students eyes, and I've learned that tutoring the classes I'm quite passionate about it has helped me understand the systems more and become a better tutor in the future!
I took my first medical terminology and anatomy/physiology class in high school. I obtained my B.S. in Nutrition Exercise and Health Science in May of 2016. I'm currently working towards my Doctorate in Chiropractic, anticipated graduation August 2020 (fingers crossed)

Since everyone learns differently, I first like to acknowledge that fact and base how I portray the information accordingly. I also love creating stories/acronyms for certain themes to encourage retention of information (and they've seemed to work thus far!). One of my professors also taught me a method that has worked well for me and that is seeing (reading) the information, verbalizing the information aloud, re-write the information (in their own words), and hear the information explained from someone else and as a result you'll reinforce that topic via different facets to best retain what was learned.
I've coordinated both group (as many as 27 students) and private tutoring classes. I've worked with students from both ends of the spectrum as far as their level of understanding of the topic. I've had success with each of them. I enjoy breaking down certain topics more to get a better understanding of them as well as more general learning points and making pneumonics over more complex topics as well!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try and get an understanding of how they learn the best, whether it's pictures, hearing it as a story, working with marker boards, etc.
