About Joe
Joe Herrera is a Professional Actor, Acting Instructor, Acting Coach, Director, and Producer. He holds his M.A. in Theatre from Regent University, and is a graduate from the National Michael Chekhov Association; recognized as a Certified Acting Teacher of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique, through the National Michael Chekhov Association (NMCA). He is a Member & Recognized Michael Chekhov Instructor of the Michael Chekhov Association (MICHA).
As an actor he has professional experience in theatre, film/TV, and various media venues. As an acting instructor he is a physical theatre and movement specialist, teaching various psychophysical techniques such as: Michael Chekhov, Laban Movement Analysis, Alba Emoting Method, Rasaboxes, and various body-mind-spirit pedagogies. He also teaches scene study using a fusion of Chekhov with Robert Cohen's G.O.T.E. method, Shakespeare, monologue work, auditioning for the actor for theatre and film, and acting for Film/TV.
Joe also has production experience in directing, producing, casting, stage composition, and production coaching (acting/scene work/characterization).

In 2008 I was invited by a private school to come and direct their winter musical. The musical was a success, and the head principal of the school offered me a sub contract to provide lessons and workshops for their student population. At this point, I saw how much I truly loved teaching theatre and the art of acting, that I began to provide more services to various performing art learning facilities.
I have 30 years of professional experience in the industry, working as a professional actor on stage, film/TV, and voiceovers. I have 10 years of teaching experience; working as a teaching artist, Private Acting instructor/coach, and serving as Adjunct Professor for local colleges in the area.
I have a Master’s degree in theatre from Regent University. I am also a National Michael Chekhov Association Certified Acting Teacher of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique & Pedagogy.

About the lesson

1) First student would need to contact me directly, so we may discuss his/her needs as it pertains to their craft.
2) After learning more about the student, we would discuss the nature of the lessons, how long the classes would be and cost, and location of lessons.
3) Next, first five lessons (one hour each lesson) would be scheduled and fully paid for by student. Student would receive an email from me with a learning packet, which would contain what the student would need to start the lessons.
4) Then, student would be begin their actor training journey with me; continual assessments would be provided for student to monitor progress.
5) After the first 5 lessons, I would discuss with student the possibilities of continuing further study with me.
I have worked with professional actors for both stage and film; college aged student actors; High School theatre students, and younger students.

The start of 2020, what started as a small role for BET TV Series Carl Weber's "The Family Business" landed me a recurring role as Uncle Willie Monroe for their upcoming season 2 on BET+.
In April 2019, I was honored to work with Lily Collins, Simon Pegg, Chace Crawford, and Connie Nielsen on feature film "Inheritance" as supporting role Detective Emilio Sanchez.

Joe is an Amazing Acting Teacher, his teaching approach comes from his deep passion for the craft. That said Joe is simply one of the Best Acting Teachers/ Coach’s that we have today, he creates a safe comfortable environment for his Actors to work in !
I could quickly tell Joe takes his craft seriously. He truly digs deep to portray a character, to get into the mind of the person he is playing the part of. It was refreshing to see how professional he is with his acting practices. As I was around him, I felt like he knew secrets I did not and I felt honored to be able to observe his talent. Joe is the real deal.
I loved that he was able to put me at ease and help me to see the story arc of my character. We even tried a new direction for a scene in rehearsal that the director loved and kept in the film. I highly recommend Joe Herrera as an acting instructor.
I like how the instructor taught me, overall he made it an understandable process that allowed me to move forward in my acting skill. The techniques that were taught to me really helped with character building and establishing the emotional life of the character.
I completed the 20 hour program and received a lovely certificate. I loved Joe’s focus, dedication and attention to detail. It’s great to learn from someone who has such respect and fervor for the craft of acting. I have also gotten coaching from him on projects as needed and I appreciate how he shows up for me - he reads my script ahead of time and cames to the session ready with great direction and attentiveness. I can not recommend Joe enough... He’s generous and inspiring. He is professorial in his own acting pursuit as well as in his teaching. He attacks acting like a master. Standard pricing for private lessons:
Each lesson is $70/hour plus an additional 30% for taxes, health benefit expenses, travel, etc -- total for each 1 hour lesson is $91. First 5 lessons must be booked as a trial period. Cancellations of any classes must be done 24 hours in advance. Any missed classes would need to be rescheduled at the discretion of the instructor.
Group rates are available for semi-private and larger groups: Please contact me for special discounted rates.
