About John
Hello my name is John, thank you for reading my bio. I am an experienced environmental scientist/freshwater ecologist with 20 years of experience. I have also performed undergraduate level laboratory demonstrations at university and performed tutorials on chemistry undergraduate coursework. My approach to tutoring is to provide a structured lesson on a topic within the exam syllabus using a range of worked examples. I find that this approach helps to absorb and remember information. My starting point is to “diagnose” my student’s needs and draw up a tailored study plan. I always round off my lessons with question practice but I am quite happy to work through exam papers only with students if that is what they want to do. Sometimes students want help writing assignments rather than course revision. I will discuss the plan with you the first time we meet and we can make any adjustments needed. Initially, I would deliver a structured interactive lesson around a topic on the syllabus designed to revise a subject and stimulate understanding and recall of the subject. I have known John for almost 25 years since school and he was the obvious choice to ask when I needed help to go through topics in A level chemistry that were causing me problems as I wanted to re train into as a laboratory assistant. He patiently explained each topic using worked examples and where possible past exam questions. His approach of going through the question or topic step-by-step and explaining concepts at each stage was instrumental in me grasping those topics I was struggling with.
