About Lily
I am an experienced tutor and science communication professional, with a passion for translating complex science and maths into enjoyable and understandable content, for my students and in my work outside tutoring. I have an integrated master's degree in physics from the University of Manchester, home to one of Europe's top physics departments, and a master's in science communication from Imperial College London.
I relish trying to frame difficult concepts in a different way to make them easier to understand, as I know that one explanation will not work for every student. Outside of my work as a tutor, I have produced science content for several major organisations, including Nature, Imperial College London, The Lancet, and the BBC.
I have been tutoring privately since 2016. I worked as an A Level Maths tutor for The City Academy Hackney in 2020/21, tutoring a group of pass/fail borderline students. All students went on to pass their Maths A Level, and many exceeded their predicted grades. I have also worked as a private tutor for students from a range of age groups and levels over the past 5 years, including KS2 and KS3 Maths and Science; GCSE Maths, Chemistry, and Physics; and A Level Maths, Further Maths, and Physics. Many of these students went on to achieve level 7-9 grades (A/A*) and several of my A Level students got places on top degree courses at Russel Group Universities. I have taught courses from a range of exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR.
One of my former students recently sent me an email saying this: “Thank you so much for helping me revise for my physics exams. All your hard work helped me get an A in unit 1 and an A* in unit 2, which gave me an A overall. Maybe Physics is not my worst subject after all!”

My teaching method is very much based on each individual student. I know that different students learn at different speeds and in different ways, so I spend time in my sessions getting to know my students and understand what makes them understand. I use a combination of discussion, visualisation, practice questions and exams to help my students get to grips with the things they find hardest. I am also very keen to see my students’ school work in my sessions, as seeing how things have been explained to them and where they have gone wrong helps me to understand why they might be struggling in certain areas.
