About Steven

I’m a classroom math teacher who works with students on building the skills and confidence they need to succeed. I teach algebra, geometry, and a course that helps students strengthen their foundations before moving into Algebra 2. Working with students who have struggled with math has taught me how much a clear explanation, patience, and the right amount of practice can help.

In our lessons, you can ask questions, make mistakes, and say when something doesn’t make sense. I’ll meet you where you are, explain each step clearly, and adjust my approach when you need a different explanation. I want you to understand what you’re doing and feel comfortable tackling problems on your own.

I know math can be frustrating, especially when you’ve struggled with it for a while. My approach is to find out where things stopped making sense and build from there. I break problems into manageable steps, explain the reasoning, and give students time to practice without feeling rushed.

I usually follow an “I do, we do, you do” approach. First, I work through an example and explain my thinking. Then we solve a similar problem together before the student tries one independently. I use visuals, everyday examples, and questions that help students explain how they got their answers. If an explanation isn’t clicking, I try another way.

A typical lesson starts with a short review so I can see what the student understands and where they need help. We focus on one main skill, work through examples, and finish with a few problems that show what they can do on their own. That helps me decide what we should work on next.

As a classroom math teacher, I regularly work with students who have struggled in previous math classes. That experience has taught me to look beyond a wrong answer. Sometimes the difficulty comes from an earlier skill, unfamiliar vocabulary, or not knowing how to start. I help students work through those barriers while building their confidence.

My lessons are best suited for middle and high school students, especially those working on foundational math, Algebra 1, geometry, or preparing for Algebra 2. I’m particularly comfortable helping students who need a slower pace, clearer explanations, or support rebuilding skills they missed along the way.
