About Tian
I’m a friendly and patient language teacher who enjoys helping students build confidence and use language naturally in real life.
I enjoy meeting people from different cultural backgrounds and believe language learning should feel supportive, practical and enjoyable rather than stressful. Outside teaching, I enjoy travelling, cooking, exploring different foods, movies, TV dramas and modern cultural topics. I love learning about different cultures and perspectives, and I sometimes bring these real-life topics into lessons to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
I also believe teachers should remain lifelong learners. By staying curious, open-minded and connected to the world around us, we can continue bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to our students. In Chinese, there is a saying “教学相长”, which reflects the idea that teachers and students can learn and grow together through communication and shared experiences.
I’m always happy to adapt lessons based on each student’s personality, goals and learning style.

Hi! I’m Tian, a native Mandarin/Cantonese speaker with a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, CTCSOL certification and recent PGCE training in the UK.
I have experience teaching children, teenagers and adults, including GCSE Chinese students, university students and adult learners. I previously worked for the Confucius Institute and also taught international students at university level in China.
As an EAL learner myself, I understand how stressful language learning can sometimes feel. Many students spend years focusing on pronunciation and exam scores, but still feel nervous when speaking in real life. Because of this, I try to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable using the language naturally and confidently.
