About Kelly

I am a scientist who is passionate about teaching. I have taught more students than I can count - in the hundreds between tutoring, nannying, in-home schooling, outdoor education, and summer camps. I have two favorite stories from tutoring: one is a girl who was going to fail math and got a B+ after only a quarter working together; two is another girl who didn't think she could do well in school in any subject and had no higher than a C- in any class but finished the year with no less than a C in any class. We continued to work together and see even better results the following year.

About the lesson

I am an environmental educator by trade and focus on grades 4-8 in that setting. I have about 18 years of tutoring experience with Kindergarten through college. My classes vary depending on the grade level and subject, but I try to keep the following consistent for every class: encouragement, discovering best practices for studying and learning for each individual, covering subject matter in multiple ways if necessary to ensure understanding, keeping the class focused, repetition, and practical homework as needed. I fully believe in the balance between catering to individuals to teach in a way that will suit their learning style and supporting them during the challenge of discovering how to learn a subject in the same way that others learn.
