About Yuko

I believe that learning a language is more than just studying words — it’s about connecting with culture and communication. Through engaging activities - some traditional Japanese games, Origami, calligraphy, etc, cultural insights, and interactive lessons, I aim to help my students gain both fluency and confidence in using Japanese. Outside of teaching, I love skiing, tennis, and scuba diving, and I’m a big dog lover! These hobbies help me stay active, curious, and inspired in my everyday life.

About the lesson

Konnichiwa! I'm originally from Tokyo, a native Japanese speaker and a friendly, dedicated London-based Japanese teacher with over five years of experience teaching English speakers of all ages — including teenagers, university students and adults. I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language and have been teaching privately with learners at all levels, from beginner to advanced in person and online. My teaching style focuses on creating tailor-made lessons that meet each learner’s individual needs, goals, and learning pace. Whether students want to master grammar, improve their conversation skills, or prepare for exams such as the JLPT or GCSE Japanese, I design lessons that are both effective and enjoyable. I normally use the “Genki” or “Marugoto” textbook for beginners and “Tobira” for intermediate, with a lot of talking and listening in the lessons using my own teaching slides on TV/online. Some of my students have even gone on to work in Japan after studying with me, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of my teaching experience. Available for both online and in-person lessons, I’m passionate about supporting every learner on their unique Japanese language journey! •Native Japanese language instruction (Beginner to Advanced) •Tailor-made lesson planning •JLPT & GCSE exam preparation •Grammar and conversational teaching •Online and in-person lessons

Yuko is incredibly patient and encouraging, which has been amazing for improving my confidence, especially for speaking Japanese. She spent a lot of time at the beginning to understand what my goals were and what I had already studied, and has been very flexible regarding the structure and content of my classes. It gives me a lot of opportunity to practice speaking more naturally and engage in natural conversation using grammar, vocabulary, etc., that I am studying, which in turn makes learning Japanese more fun and much less stressful!

I think Yuko is an excellent tutor and really cares about her students' progress. Her approach to teaching is thorough, open-minded, and always incredibly considerate.
