About Joshua
Hi! I’m Josh :) I’m a current university student, studying Linguistics at University College London.
I finished my A Levels in June of last year, where I studied English Language, English Literature, and Sociology.
My focus as a tutor is that every student is treated as an individual with their own strengths and weaknesses, and can learn in a comfortable and positive environment that fits their needs.
I really care about each student and will go above and beyond to ensure they achieve the best grade possible!

I aim to teach in a compassionate, and flexible way, working with the student to understand how they will learn best.
Some things I can help with are:
- structuring essays and short answer questions
- how to approach exam questions (understanding the question, working out what information is relevant and then forming an answer)
- improving vocabulary and sentence structure
- exam ‘buzzwords’ and how to apply these to writing
- GCSE and A Level English Lit and Lang content and revision
- I could also offer support with personal statement writing and UCAS.
A typical lesson would last an hour, although depending on the student this can change. Some people work better in long sessions and others do better in short bursts - and I am willing to accommodate this.
I have A Level qualifications in English Literature (grade A*) and English Language (grade A). I received grade 8 in both GCSE English Language and Literature.
I have previous experience tutoring English for other students in my school.
I tutor GCSE students from years 9-11, but also have experience tutoring people to retake GCSE English.
I also tutor A Level students from years 12-13.
I would also be able to tutor students in years 7 and 8 in preparation for studying GCSE English.
