In my experience (ranging from 5th grade to 8th grade), the biggest change going from secondary to elementary is the students. They are a lot less independent and need more guidance not only academically, but socially/emotionally as well. I have really had to constantly self-monitor and adjust my approach to them. That said, I absolutely love where I am now. It has been a good change for me. I have taught everything from 5th to 12th, and changing grade levels is a great way to learn more about my own teaching style (and self) as well as figuring out the best fit for me as a teacher. Through teaching a wide range of grades, I now know what I am best at, what I enjoy most, and that helps me be a better teacher and enjoy what I do more. Fit is probably the most important thing for a successful teacher, so playing around with grade levels are essential! one of the most important characteristics we should have, in order to be effective as online instructors, is passion and compromise. We love what we do and we look for different and innovative ways to transfer knowledge to students. Dedication is very important.We are constantly learning about new methods of instruction. Responsibility is a major trait in an online instructor. We check our classrooms often. Attention to detail is also very important. We read students messages and understand what they are saying. We pay attention to the message behind those words. As online instructors, it is very important that we are effective communicators. This means we need to transfer messages in a simple and easy way for others to understand. And some of the other qualities are Passion about the Subject, Sees Value in Online Education, Is a Good Time Manager, Is Flexible and Open to Feedback, Facilitates Classroom Community with Engaging Tone and Creativity, Trained in Online Teaching.
