About Maia
I'm currently a second year Natural Sciences student at the University of Cambridge, specialising in Physics. During my first year, I studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry, giving me a strong and broad understanding of these subjects and the confidence to support students at GCSE.
I have previously tutored a GCSE student and really enjoyed the experience, particularly seeing their confidence develop as they became more comfortable with challenging topics. I'd love to build on this experience and help more students not only improve their understanding, but also become more independent learners.
I'm passionate about the subjects that I teach, and I try to bring that enthusiasm into every lesson. I understand that difficult concepts can sometimes be intimidating, so I aim to explain ideas clearly and patiently, breaking challenging topics down into manageable steps. I also adapt my teaching to each student's individual needs, whether they need help building their foundations, tackling more difficult questions, or preparing for exams.
Above all, I want my lessons to be productive and enjoyable. I encourage students to ask questions, learn from their mistakes and develop the confidence to tackle problems independently. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling that they understand something they previously found difficult and are better prepared to approach it themselves.
Having recently experienced GCSE and A-level style learning myself, I understand the challenges students face and can offer explanations from the perspective of someone who has worked through these subjects at a high level.

I've previously tutored a GCSE maths student, helping him make significant progress from struggling with his mock exams in school to ultimately passing his GCSE! My lessons are typically an hour long and combine clear explanations of the content with worked examples and exam-style questions. I encourage students to attempt questions independently before we go through them together, allowing me to identify areas they are struggling with and tailor the lesson accordingly.
At the start of each subsequent lesson, I use a short quiz covering material from previous lessons to reinforce learning and check progress. As students become more confident, I introduce more challenging past-paper questions to develop their exam technique and prepare them for the style of questions they are likely to encounter.
I teach GCSE students. I achieved 10 grade 9's at GCSE, including in Maths and Further Maths and four A*'s at A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
