About Meriska
I am a final year BSc Molecular Biology and Biotechnology student at Stellenbosch University. I have tutored for 5 years. Throughout my high school career, I have tutored a range of subjects including physical sciences. I was head of my high school's peer tutoring program and I was also a tutor in this program for physical sciences, mathematics, accounting, English, and life sciences. I was also a part-time tutor at KCC Saturday School - a school that provides learners from underprivileged schools with extra mathematics and English lessons.

My teaching method is based on the principles of active recall and spaced repetition - two of the most effective study techniques there are. My aim is to get a student to know and understand the work well enough so that they are able to recall and apply the work in a test or exam situation. I approach each topic by giving the student a practice paper/test at the start to see what they know and what they don't know. I then work off that and fill in the gaps in their knowledge by explaining concepts that they are struggling with. At the end of explaining said topics, I give them another practice test so that they are able to see where they are, what they understand, and what they need to work on. This continues for every lesson. At the start of every lesson, we do past paper questions on the previous lesson's work in order to incorporate spaced repetition. I also teach you new effective techniques to help you study and work smarter, not harder, and I'm always available even outside the scheduled lesson times if you need help.

- Kaira is an extremely intelligent student. She picks up on concepts very quickly. The only recommendation I have is that she needs to practice different types of questions often. This will help her to familiarize herself with the material as well as help her understand where her points for improvement are.Meriska's response :

Meriska is a very hands-on tutor and takes time to assess the needs of her individual students. Her focus on practice questions and application has really benefited my understanding of the work and has made me more confident in myself.
Meriska is an amazing tutor. She is very thorough in her lessons and makes sure to make her lesson material from the syllabus, so I always know that what she is teaching me is necessary. I also really like how she embeds past paper questions into her notes during the lesson as it allows me an opportunity to test myself and see where I'm at. She's also really helped me learn how to work smarter. Meriska is also super friendly and engaging in her lessons which makes the lessons so enjoyable. I really like Meriska as a tutor and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor.
Meriska is a very good tutor who i found through a friend.I have tried multiple chemistry and biology tutors that essentially just read my test book to me.Meriska has her own notes with links to helpful videos and past paper questions that really help.Shes really friendly and makes lessons pretty fun rather than it being dull like school.She is studying chem and bio in uni and understands the content im trying to learn atm.10/10 would recommend.
So organized and thorough. Highly recommend!
