About Emma
I am a third-year Biochemistry undergraduate at Newcastle University with a year of tutoring experience, teaching GCSE Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Geography as well as A-level Geography. I have a genuine passion for science - I've recently completed an embryology research internship and studied a course on the 100,000 Genomes Project (NHS), I now have the ability to connect GCSE and A level topics to real-world applications which I've found genuinely keeps students more engaged.
I tailor my teaching style to each student, breaking down difficult concepts clearly and building confidence step by step. Having worked through my own academic challenges (including studying with dyslexia and improving up 7 maths sets between year 7 and year 11 through consistent effort), I understand that progress comes from the right support and encouragement, not just natural ability. I am patient, organised and focused on helping students not just improve their grades but actually enjoy the subject.

My lessons are one hour long and fully tailored to the individual student's needs, whether that's working through GCSE exam technique, building confidence in a specific topic, or getting ahead on coursework. I usually start by identifying where a student feels least confident, then structure the session around clear explanations, worked examples, and practice questions, checking understanding as we go rather than just covering content.
Lessons are relaxed but focused — I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, even ones that feel "obvious," since that's usually where the real gaps are. I'll set light follow-up work between sessions where useful, and I'm happy to adapt pace depending on whether a student needs to consolidate basics or push into harder material. The typical length of a lesson is 1 hour but I am more than happy to cater for 2 hours.
