About Charlie
I’m Charlie. I studied Russian language, history and politics at Durham, spent time living in Tbilisi and Vilnius, and previously worked for a former Downing Street Chief of Staff, helping organise an annual political forum. I recently left that role to launch my own company and complete a book I’m writing on the intersection of neuroscience, determinism and modern systems of governance. I’m tutoring to support myself while I do that, and because I genuinely enjoy helping people learn. I miss seeing students improve week by week. I’m calm, curious, and good at explaining things, whether to teenagers working toward exams or adults learning English from scratch. If you’re motivated, I’ll help you reach your goals.

My lessons are flexible and shaped around the goals of each student. Whether you’re preparing for GCSEs, learning English as an adult, or building confidence in History, Russian or Maths, I tailor each session to your level and how you learn best. I’ve taught English to adult learners ranging from kids to adults in their mid-60s, and also have experience working with school-age students across different exam boards. Most lessons last 60 minutes, but I’m happy to adjust depending on what suits your pace and goals. I don’t use a fixed script, I listen, assess, and adjust as we go. My aim is to help you feel clear, capable, and motivated, whatever your starting point. I hold a 2:1 degree in Russian Language and History from Durham University, with a distinction in spoken Russian. I’ve lived and studied in both Tbilisi and Vilnius, and I previously taught English to Russian speakers while living abroad. While living in Tbilisi, I qualified with and worked for FORM, and because I learnt Russian, I understand the process of both learning and teaching a language and have impeccable comprehension of both English and Russian grammar. I previously worked as Chief-of-Staff to a former Downing Street Chief of Staff, helping organise an annual political forum, before leaving to set up my own company and complete a book on the intersection of neuroscience, determinism, and modern systems of governance. I’m tutoring to support myself while I work on both and because I genuinely miss seeing students progress. I got 5 A*s and 5 As at IGCSE, and 2 A*s and 1 A at A-level. I know what good teaching looks like, and I also know how frustrating it can be when something just won’t click. I really enjoyed teaching English in Georgia and I miss the feeling of seeing students progress and helping them reach their goals. Available online or in person in E15 (Stratford/Forest Gate).
