About Alex
Hi, I’m Alex! I am a Berklee College of Music–admitted musician with ABRSM Grade 8 and a strong interest in pop piano, music theory and composition. I was accepted to Berklee after around three years of serious music study, which taught me that students can improve quickly when they understand and enjoy what they are learning.
I have experience composing orchestral music, including an original piece written for my school graduation. I can write sheet music and explain musical ideas such as chords, harmony, melody and rhythm in a simple way.
I also have some experience teaching younger children in Hong Kong. Through this experience, I developed my own beginner-friendly approach to helping children listen to music, find notes on the piano and gradually play by ear.
I am friendly, patient and happy to adjust lessons to each child’s interests. I can teach in English, Cantonese or Mandarin.

My lessons are for young beginners who want to enjoy music, not only memorize notes and repeat classical pieces.
I teach students how to listen carefully, recognize notes and melodies, and slowly learn to play songs by ear. We will also explore pop piano, chords, rhythm, basic music theory and sheet music. When the student is ready, I can introduce simple improvisation and composition so they can create their own music too.
I have developed a simple learning approach: listen, sing, find the notes, understand the music, and then create. Every child learns differently, so I will adjust each lesson based on their age, level and favorite songs.
My main goal is to help students build a strong musical foundation while keeping their interest and love for music. Lessons are 45 minutes or one hour and can be taught in English, Cantonese or Mandarin.
