About Julia
I believe the best way to teach and learn is to enjoy what you’re doing.
Credentials:
I have a minor in Photography from the University of Delaware, helped by my having earned 6 studio art credit from an AP Art class as a high school student). I paid for graduate school (MS Wildlife Biology, Iowa State University) through illustration, website creation, and teaching.
I have had scientific and general illustrations published in peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as a series of university publications. Recent work has ranged from 3x4” to 40x60” canvases with many happy commission clients.
I’ve had work in at least 40 exhibitions, most of them juried, since 2019. Having worked as a gallery assistant at the Maryland Federation of Art and from hanging my own work, I know how to ensure your work is ready for a gallery and how to successfully submit work to calls for entry.

Whether you’re a beginning artist in traditional or digital media, I can help minimize intimidation and overwhelm so you can get to work and start learning the basics (even if those basics are the VERY basics).
For intermediate acrylic painters, I can pass on tips and tricks for working with this challenging medium en plein air.
Are you ready to get your work out there and start submitting to exhibitions? I am ready to help you learn how to photograph your artwork, frame it, and work in online portals like ArtCall.com.
I can help new photographers understand their camera and how to make adjustments using digital editing apps. Do you know what “dodging” is and why its icon looks like a lollipop? I’ll be happy to explain this and other “old school” content.
Planning to make a website on WIX? I can pass on what I’ve learned making my own, from the basics to starting out with CMS linking.
Friendly, patient, and down to earth, this experienced but largely self-taught artist and college-trained photographer can help get you on your way.

Details
My preference for in-person meets is the Crofton/Annapolis area. Outside is great if you want to do plein air, or in a coffee shop for digital work.
