About

Hello! My name is Keely Marshall. I love teaching children and spending time with them. While growing up I began babysitting which turned into tutoring them and helping with extra-curricular activities. So, I have now been tutoring for over six years! I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in English in three years and decided to spend my fourth year studying a subject I loved, Comedy TV Writing. I was lucky enough to be accepted and successfully graduate from UCLA's competitive one year program in 2019. Even while in college, I helped my friends edit essays and reformat their ideas...for free, of course! I love watching a child become more confident in themselves as they begin to master a subject. I genuinely care about the success of the students I work with and am more than willing to also talk with the parents to help progress the student's work!

I love watching a student grow not only in a subject but also in their confidence. While in high school, I had trouble with math, I had to work hard to obtain a grade that made me proud. That hard work ended up making me a better student overall. I hope to be able to provide that positive reinforcement and extra push that the student needs in order to reach their full potential.

About the lesson

I love to start out by talking with the parent and the student about where they think there needs to be an improvement. That way, I can gain a better sense of where I think they need encouragement. However, during our first session, I also look for where the student excels. I think that by reinforcing the places where the student feels confident while also working on the places they have more trouble in, they will become a better student overall as they begin to believe in their ability to succeed. I also like to find subjects that the student finds interesting such as music or sports and try to incorporate it into their learning experience as much as possible!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think that a student should be honest with themselves and ask where they need help. Asking for help is the best thing you can do for yourself...even the greats need to ask for help every once and awhile. If a student cannot define where they need help, then I would love to know where they feel they excel. That way, I am able to see the holes where I may be able to come in and help fill!
